Privacy Notice
Trainpulse is a small, independent journal. We collect very little, and we explain everything we do collect on this page.
Last updated: March 2026.
1. Who we are
Trainpulse is an editorial project run from Toronto and Montreal, Canada. References to “we”, “us”, and “our” mean the Trainpulse editorial team. References to “you” mean any visitor to this website.
2. What this notice covers
This notice describes what personal information we collect when you visit our website or subscribe to our slow morning letters, what we do with that information, and what rights you have over it.
3. The data we collect
3.1 Information you give us directly
When you submit a form on this site — for example, to subscribe to our letters or to send us a message — we collect:
- Your first name (as you enter it in the form)
- Your email address
- Your phone number (only if you choose to provide it)
- Any optional message you write to us
- The fact that you ticked the consent box
3.2 Information collected automatically
Like most websites, Trainpulse logs some technical information about your visit — for example, the type of browser you are using, the page you arrived from, and the approximate region (not address) you are visiting from. This data is aggregated and is used only to keep the site running well.
4. Why we collect this information
- To deliver the slow morning letters you have asked for
- To reply to messages you send us through the contact form
- To understand which entries are quietly resonating with readers
- To keep the website secure and functioning
5. Cookies
We use a small number of cookies. The full breakdown — what is necessary, what is analytics, what is marketing — is on our cookie preferences page. You can change your choices at any time through the “Manage cookies” link in the footer.
6. How long we keep your data
We keep subscriber information for as long as you remain subscribed. If you unsubscribe, your data is removed from our active sending list within 30 days. Messages sent through the contact form are kept for up to 24 months and then deleted.
7. Sharing
We do not sell your data. We share information only with the trusted service providers we use to send our letters and to host the site — and only to the extent strictly needed for those services to function. We do not allow them to use your information for their own purposes.
8. Your rights
You have the right to:
- Ask what personal data we hold about you
- Ask us to correct anything inaccurate
- Ask us to delete your data (“right to be forgotten”)
- Withdraw consent at any time
- Object to certain uses of your data
- Request a copy of your data in a portable format
To exercise any of these rights, email us at privacy@trainpulse.org.
9. Children
Trainpulse is written for adult readers and is not directed at children under the age of 16. We do not knowingly collect data from children.
10. Security
We use industry-standard security measures, including encrypted connections (HTTPS) across the whole site. No system is entirely free of risk, and we cannot guarantee absolute security, but we take reasonable steps to protect the data you trust us with.
11. International transfers
Some of the services we use are based outside of Canada. Where that is the case, we ensure those providers offer adequate protection in line with applicable Canadian privacy laws.
12. Changes to this notice
If we update this notice in a substantive way, we will note the new “Last updated” date at the top of the page. For significant changes, we will also mention it in the next slow morning letter.
